Melon Displays is a series of sculptures loosely inspired by the way people on the market create instant displays to present their goods on. After having done some visual research on these ‘pop ups’ in the streets of Rotterdam (which is known as a multicultural melting pot) it turned out that the most interesting displays were created to present different types of Melons.
Encountering with these displays in the streets, there is always something uncomfortable and strange about them. This became the starting point for the series Melon Displays that play with the sculptural approach of these instant displays in which aesthetic is overruled by practicality and different shapes and materials come together as one.
